We recently implemented “Special Time” with Amelie and it has been such a positive addition to our day to day that I thought I’d share— “special time” means that we have a specific amount of time (typically 15-30 minutes) per day, depending on the day, allocated towards one-on-one time where Amelie is completely in charge of what we do. She chooses the activity and we are 100% present, mirroring back what she’s doing and basically doing whatever she says (within reason 😅.) For example, yesterday she and I had a lovely tea party that lead into a puppy sleepover, where we were both puppies 🐶!! No phones are allowed. This creates an amazing sense of intimacy (Amelie really opens up during this time) as well as a feeling of complete control, which kids rarely experience 💕 It’s really incredible how a small addition in the routine put into a consistent structure can make such a powerful impact.
