“American Psycho” in the style of the “Pretty Woman” poster (swipe to see the original poster reference). Designed using Photoshop.
(Some context for the piece:)
I got the idea for this morbid mashup when I saw this old promo picture of Christian Bale for American Psycho. His leaning pose and effortless charm instantly reminded me of Richard Gere’s pose on the “Pretty Woman” poster. In the original poster, there is a cutesy photograph of an unlikely, yet lovable couple. In contrast, my rendition depicts Christian Bale’s Patrick Bateman cheekily standing next to a dead body surrounded by a pool of blood. The casual manner in which he stands after committing murder represents the character’s narcissism and (sadistic) misogyny. Patrick Bateman is a satirical depiction of the egocentric and preppy lifestyles of the “elite” (Richard Gere’s character in “Pretty Woman” is part of that same lifestyle before finding love and growing as a person). Creating a mashup with the poster for “Pretty Woman” felt like a creative way to depict the satire that “American Psycho” explores.
