I’m not a gift-giver. I’m more of the “just send me the Amazon link, and I’ll buy it” type. But this year has been different. Through all the challenges and blessings, I’ve felt an overwhelming sense of gratitude toward my Savior. I feel compelled to do something big to show my appreciation for all the miracles I’ve seen in my life and the lives of my family and friends. I’ve been thinking about the shepherds who were among the first to witness Christ’s birth. I don’t know if they saw Him again, but I imagine the image they carried was of the humble baby, surrounded by animals, a courageous mother, and a willing father. They saw the living Redeemer, and all they were asked to do was remember Him. I like to think the shepherds, inspired by their experience, shared their testimony wherever they went, proclaiming who this baby was and His purpose. The scriptures even suggest they shared more of the mission of Christ to Mary. I also see a connection in how Christ, in John 10, teaches that He is the “good shepherd.” I like to think that as He grew, He heard stories of those humble shepherds—their faith and admiration for Him. He remembered them, and their example may have even inspired His own teachings. So this year, my way of saying “thank you” to the Savior is to do a little more, like the shepherds. When I go to church, I want to truly reflect on Him and His teachings. As I study His words, I’ll focus on how to better apply them. In my conversations, I aim to truly listen, and sit with others when they need someone to mourn with them. I want to reach out to those who may feel forgotten and, when it’s difficult, I forgive for my own healing. The Savior promised He would “feed His flock like a shepherd,” seek the lost and bring back the broken. Believe Him. He doesn’t need the big gesture. Our Good Shepherd is unchanging and loves us just as deeply today as He did when He walked this earth. Jesus Christ showed us the perfect example—He loved all and hated no one. I testify that Jesus Christ is our Good Shepherd. He knows us, adores us, and laid down His life for us. I am deeply grateful for Him and love Him with all my heart. Merry Christmas Eve! ❤️
