Why do I post so much about Better Things? Trigger alert for those who are sensitive to gushing (that’s you Pamela). Better things grew me. Years ago, I had watched and learned about myself and parenting from watching Better Things....even making my daughter watch so she could see that we weren’t alone in our love/hate moments (See max and mom “you’re a cunt” scene) I had never met Pamela until her call describing the role of Caroline, a role that no one else would ever see in me. The arc that Pamela and her writers (@jhortua ❤️) gave Caroline would be a gift to any actor. But to cast me in a role originally conceived as a southern belle ex debutante was above and beyond mere colorblind casting. ( also🙏to @fleafasano ) All that aside, can I just tell you that Pamela in real life is more formidable yet down to earth than Sam? As a director, she is everywhere without being oppressive. As a human, there is no one more generous. One Example: during the London shoot, Pamela wanted to figure out a way to write Caroline into the scene with her and the girls walking through London even tho Marion has to go back to the hotel. That morning she asked me if I wanted to be in the scene because she had written an alternate line to allow that. My ‘crazy’ kicked in and I said “Oh no I don’t have to be in the scene.” (Ever the nerd, the unwanted guest at a kids bday party ...the last one to be picked for a team... you get the gist.). A look of disappointment crossed Pamela’s face. She then found me at the pub we were using as a dressing/ green room. She took her 10-1 /ie pee break while talking to me about this decision based on fear of rejection. A therapy session from a director while she was sitting on the toilet to maximize time: That was a first. She flipped a switch for me from the toilet! Be Bold! I would not be having the adventures I’m having now without my Better Things experience. It grew me as an actor and as a human. I am forever grateful to Pamela and her brilliant team behind and in front of the camera. Each and every one of you welcomed me into to your family with open arms from day one. I love you all.
