Today, October 13, is Metastatic Breast Cancer Awareness (Action) Day! Each of the people you see in this video have been impacted by metastatic breast cancer in some way. Some are caregivers, some have friends living with MBC, some are living with MBC themselves. These dates are meaningful dates to them in their lives, some joyful memories, and some devastating, within their experiences with breast cancer and beyond. Will today be the day that you’ll be an MBC Ally? There are newer, and better treatments now than ever before that could help those living with MBC, but it still takes far too long to navigate federal and provincial bureaucracy before they help the people who need them. This just isn’t ok. The task of improving accesses to MBC treatments can’t be placed on those with MBC alone. They’ve already got too much. So, on MBC Awareness Day, we call on you, all members of the breast cancer community and beyond, to be an MBC Ally. Be someone who will learn more, someone who will reject the status quo, and someone who use their voice for change. It can be uncomfortable, but it is so very important. If we are truly going to make change, we need MBC Allies to call on decision makers, drug manufacturers, healthcare professionals and researchers to listen more closely, be held to account. We’ve asked before and we will continue to demand that they all do better.
