Happy #worldphotographyday! In the last year, I’ve been so blessed to develop my craft, meet new photographers, and capture moments in history. These photos are from the fallen comrade ceremony at Bobby Hutton Park during the Black Panther Party’s 55th Anniversary. The woman in white, Charlotte O’Neal, is a former member of the party. She shared with the crowd that she is the same age that Bobby Hutton (the first BPP member) would’ve been, if he wasn’t murdered at 17 years old by Oakland PD. Being present for moments like this have taught me the power of oral history and how photography can bring these stories to life and allow them to be retold. © 2022 Micherlange Francois-Hemsley
