An exceptional monsoon season triggered severe flooding in Afghanistan and Pakistan. More than 1000 people have been killed and millions are severely affected. Floods in Afghanistan have killed more than 180 people this month as torrential rains wreaked havoc in central and eastern Afghan provinces. In neighboring Pakistan, floods triggered by the monsoon rains claimed at least 1,000 lives and more than 30 million badly effected, mostly in areas bordering Afghanistan, according to the country's natural disaster agency.
