Join us on 7th September and meet Bouza at our LATE SUMMER TASTING. Bouza is a small family-owned producer founded in 2000 by Juan and Elisa on the site of a 1940’s winery and is one of the most acclaimed estates in the country. They have 42 hectares of sustainably farmed vineyards planted over 4 separate sites and use only estate grown fruit. There are significant plantings of Tannat, Uruguay’s signature grape, along with Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Merlot, Tempranillo Riesling and Albariño, a grape which is highly successful in the Atlantic influenced climate and which they were the first to introduce to the country. The whole range showcases Uruguay’s signatures of intense fruit and vibrant acidity and with their single vineyard Tannat releases, they have become the country’s most critically acclaimed producer, with Eduardo Boido being named Tim Atkin’s winemaker of the year in 2020 and the flagship 2018 Mont Vide Eu his wine of the year. Two of the vineyards are near the winery and are home to the Albariño and most of the Chardonnay, Merlot and Tannat, whilst a more recent project started in 2010 has been the development of the Pan de Azucar and Las Espinas vineyards in the far east of the country where it is significantly colder – even in Europe this would be considered a very cool climate for vine growing. Here are planted Riesling and Pinot Noir along with small amounts of the other varieties and the wines from this area have shown huge promise, with intensity and a natural freshness not generally associated with most new world wines. Bouza is unquestionably a world class estate, with a fantastic range of wines that are made with minimum intervention to better express their origins and this is the best place to start your discovery of this great vinous country. @bodegabouza #latesummertasting #jeroboams #uruguaywine #winetasting
