'I'm excited about seeing things, and I'm interested in the way I think other people see things'. - Roy Lichtenstein, born #OnThisDay in 1923. Pop art pioneer #RoyLichtenstein believed the world could be expressed through abstract patterns. His bold, graphic style is immediately recognisable and his work still influences artists and designers today. Creating often monumentally sized paintings using his signature hand-painted dots, his work in the 60s was suggestive of the widespread and accelerating effects of popular mass culture at the time. Lichtenstein was excited by different materials and processes. In 1964 he became interested in a multilayered plastic, Rowlux, because of its unique patterns that offered an illusion of depth and motion. He used the plastic as a printing support to create 'Moonscape', titled after the iridescent and changing colour tones that emulated the effects of a land or seascape. šŸŒ‘ Roy Lichtenstein, Moonscape 1965 Ā© Estate of Roy Lichtenstein
