(1/3) I recently had the chance to test the new Leica M11 (with a Summilux 50mm f/1.4) for an article my brother @adamhurly was writing for @mensjournal - visit the link in bio for the article, an read on here for my full personal take.
I was ready to dislike this expensive camera, that’s where my intentions were headed. I had two weeks to test the M11, and less than two casual days later, my brain found a different photographer. Price thoughts phased out. Experience, pride and quality toppled all of it.
I’ve always been one to nerd out over specific lens and camera combos, what’s affordable to emulate the expensive with the cheap. That nerd will never disappear, but suddenly I found understanding via trial for the latter I’ve never actually climbed. Suddenly, if you offered me a daily camera for the next decade and beyond (yes, ignoring resale, cost, etc.) in the Leica M11 (accompanied with a Leica prime lens), or the best of any competitors 35mm body and lens, 10/10 times I’m now carrying the Leica for life.
I work as a professional photographer in the automotive industry, and I pair this with larger, high speed, high tech packed Canon bodies that have all the automatic and adjustment capabilities one needs in an equally high speed industry. This is not what I can compare my experience or choice with the M11 to.
