Q+A with @sueann_yong founder of @grumpyginger 💡What inspired you to start Grumpy Ginger? Malaysian cuisine is far less well-known in the US than Chinese, Japanese, or Thai, but it boasts some of the most deliciously fiery flavors & healthy ingredients. Since coming to the US a decade ago, I've cooked authentic Malaysian meals to stay in touch with my roots back in Kuala Lumpur. When all my favorite Chinatown markets shut during Covid, I made my favorite sauces & condiments from scratch, including my signature red curry blend...word spread organically, & soon enough I had friends asking me to jar & sell it to them! I realized this was a chance to make Malaysian cuisine - in all its rich history & intricate flavors - more accessible. 🙌How do you pay it forward to support others? Role models & representation are key to empowering the next generation of changemakers. With Grumpy Ginger, I try to be open about the motivations & struggles of being an Asian American female founder, with the hope that other aspiring AAPI & female entrepreneurs see not just the glitzy facade but the gritty reality & think, "If she can do it, why not me?" 👀A founder you admire is... @spanx founder @sarablakely! She took an unorthodox path to building her empire & showed such inspiring tenacity. I've probably seen every interview & listened to every podcast she's been in. I watched her entire Masterclass series...twice. "What would Sara do?" is a common refrain in my head as I work to build my business. ✒️Our Thoughts... 1. Grumpy Ginger is delicious & makes a quick & easy dinner. The spicy has a ton of heat so make sure you can handle spice! The flavors were warm & comforting - it tasted like I had spent hours cooking when really it took 30 minutes. 2. I tested the Spicy Malaysian Red Curry with my family. We had it with chicken & rice, & it was indeed quite spicy! After the first try, we used a fraction of the amount on the instructions because we are not the biggest spice fiends. It was super easy to use & love that it’s vegan + gluten free with no added sugar, preservatives, or additives! 📷: @startupgirldaily @shojivankuzumi
