Millions of Afghans face starvation as US refuses to return $7 Billion in seized funds.
Nearly 19 million people are facing acute levels of food insecurity, including six million at risk of starvation. More than half of the population – around 24 million people – need humanitarian aid. And an estimated three million children are acutely malnourished. This includes over a million children who are estimated to suffer from the most severe, life-threatening form of malnutrition. And without special treatment, these children could die.
Despite pleas from economists and humanitarians, the Biden administration continues to withhold around $7 billion in Afghan central bank money, which is stored at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.
The U.S. is still collectively punishing the people of Afghanistan. For millions of Afghans facing starvation, the war never ended.
With millions of Afghans impoverished and starving, the US must give back to the Afghan people what rightfully belongs to them.
