This weekend I had the privilege of reading astounding new plays by brilliant female writers with fellow generous and talented actors. A deep well of gratitude to Neel Keller and @theluisalfaro for championing new plays and specifically works by women of color. What a gift to hear stories so rarely seen on stage. Imagine if all kids were exposed to stories and cultures different from their own. Imagine if they could see themselves in the shoes of someone different from them. Imagine if they could truly learn about this in school. Imagine if the arts were prioritized. And imagine if there were no guns. This weekend we read plays, but what these playwrights and Luis were doing was expanding the canon of what the American theater is and hopefully making some much-needed, far-reaching change. Heart-broken and heart-full from this weekend.
