You ever wish that you had 8 arms like a he’e? 🐙 Cause I sure do! Sometimes these projects get so involved and intense, I find myself juggling glue guns, wire, and pliers in one hand, flowers and scissors in the other, all in attempt to get ONE PETAL to cooperate and stick the way I envisioned it. Then do that hundreds of times in a row for hours on end, and eventually we get a mask 😅 So yeah, 8 arms sounds nice every now and then lol. This plant we know here in Hawai’i as He’e Berry (He’e=octopus). The bright red “tentacles” grow in clusters and can be seen from miles away. They’re normally seen being used in lei making because of their vibrant color and longevity. This mask was definitely a challenge, almost like putting together a jigsaw puzzle. The xacto knife was my best friend during this one, each piece getting cut into the exact shape I needed it to be in to fit. My favorite part about this whole journey has been the fact that not a single mask or project have ever been the same, I have had to challenge myself, my ingenuity, and creativity to the fullest degree. There’re no inspo pics, no sketches, no planning. Just me, the plant, and endless possibilities.
