What you’re hearing is the gentle trickle of the Never Never river that wrapped around Cara & Amalia’s ceremony in the Promised Land, accompanied by the music that played as they entered the site. This chanting dates back over 400 years and is traditionally played during royal Javanese weddings.
Cara & Amalia met and fell in love on a tiny island in Indonesia. They knew pretty soon that it was the real deal, but their love is illegal in that country, so being able to be married in Australia is something they never imagined would be possible.
Sadly, Amalia’s family couldn’t make it to Australia for the wedding, and those first couple of frames show them excitedly FaceTiming her mum after they got dressed, only to be hit with the overwhelming emotion of it all.
Cara & Amalia chose to honour their ancestors by incorporating various elements throughout the day from their Javanese, Sumatran and Balinese cultures. Along with their family and bridal party, they wore traditional outfits which were meticulously handmade and sent over from Bali. With their guidance, we replicated poses from Indonesian wedding portraits before they did a tricky little switcheroo behind a tree into their modern reception getups.
Things escalated as they entered their reception at @cedarbar to a flash mob dance party from their friends who got them and everyone else up on their feet. One of their mates, who I can only assume is a Zumba instructor, ensured the rug was well and truly cut by enthusiastically leading the dancefloor the entire evening via spontaneously choreographed group dance. It truly was something.
