I have been wanting to shoot in-line skating for years. I mentioned this to my good friend @shaynielsencasting who suggested that I work with this group of teens outside of Houston, Texas. @ruinmist and @galaxy_zebra_ introduced us to their crew, and we cruised. I skated in the rink. It was fab. I’ve been working on documenting youth culture for the entirety of my career. I’m welcomed into their world, shown how they live and who they are. it’s immensely gratifying and informative. To create strong work, I have to find a way to integrate into their lives and take photographs that exemplify their character. Executing these types of shoots isn’t simple. As I always want to push myself, finding talent that inspires me can be difficult. There are so many factors involved to make it feel right, and since I have shot so much, discovering the unknown can be elusive.
