Skating rinks still elicit the same feeling in me as they did when I was a kid. They are a loud, energetic neon-colored space to escape. I wanted to ensure that I had the rink to document the incredible tricks that @ruinmist and @galaxy_zebra_ crew could do. But the rink was only one part of this story. When I do these projects, I want to see where people are from, so their suburbs become a character. I arrived several days early in Houston to meet the skaters, their parents, and location scout. I would get up early and spend all day driving the streets and pulling over to take a photo of an area if it caught my eye. One by one, the crew arrived. @sharonchitrit did the fittings the day before shooting, and I had a defacto ‘town hall’ with the parents, so everyone knew what to expect. Our film team, @eyecanbomb , and @luvideomag arrived along with wiz @d_ardill The following two days were long and hot (it’s texas), but everyone remained energetic, and we could take these photos.
