THIS. I just saw this on @mxviv’s feed and it expresses everything I feel perfectly. Thank you laylafsaad for expressing this so well and so beautifully in light of so much recent (and past) ugliness. And no, this is NOT backtracking. This is precisely how I feel regarding this soul-destroying situation. My prior post expressing love & support for my Jewish friends & chosen family still stands. At the time I deliberately chose not to water it down with an “All Lives Matter” kind of qualification. It was a response to something horrific and specific that had just taken place, not an all-encompassing assessment of the entire overwhelming and confusing and heartbreaking situation. It was a message of love to PEOPLE, not a stamp of approval for any leader, government or country. People are terrified to say the wrong thing and so perhaps sometimes we freeze and err on the side of caution. Then we are bombarded with messages - often from people we love - that our “silence is deafening.” So we attempt to express ourselves and speak from the heart and, just as we feared, for many we said/did it wrong and somehow frustratingly misrepresented how we really feel. Well, THIS is how I feel. And yes, I know this is not about me. I’m just an entertainer. I am blessed. I am entitled. I am privileged. But again, silence is not an option. I am human and to be misunderstood - especially about something so important - feels horrible. So all I can do is try to express myself. (And just like @mxviv, I am turning off the comments on this post because my soul & psyche cannot handle anymore negativity - and I’m sure that, despite my best intentions, there will be people who are unhappy with this.) ❤️☮️
