The Selbach Exotics are a trio of off-the-beaten-path wines made by Johannes and Sebastian Selbach. The labels, done with original artwork by Berlin-based artist Locki Selbach (Johannes’ niece), match the wild side of this 400+ year old family estate. 1️⃣ SELBACH FUNKELWÜRTZ ZERO This is Johannes Selbach’s answer to the non-alcoholic wine category – Funkelwürtz translates to 'Spicy Sparkler' how Johannes told us that the wine tasted the first time he tried it. This is a slightly effervescent and aromatic wine from grapes grown in the Mosel. 2️⃣ SELBACH-OSTER ‘OMG’ RIESLING TROCKEN This is a wine that was born out of curiosity; with the growing number of Orange Wines available, some good, some not so good. Johannes decided to experiment with an organically farmed parcel in the Himmelreich vineyard to see if the classic bright and fresh characteristics Riesling is known for could withstand this 'natural' wine-making process. The results were clear, but the wine wasn’t—a delicious, balanced, new-old take on Riesling from an estate with over 400 years of history. 3️⃣ SELBACH-OSTER RIESLING PÉT-NAT ‘ABOVE THE CLOUDS’ This first vintage is from 2021 Pet Nat and it’s 100% Badstube fruit, picked at Spätlese quality. The name comes from the idea to make something 'very atypical' for Selbach, but with the same quality as the rest of the estate range in mind.
