My Nonna Ivana sailed to the US from Italy at the age of 21 without being able to speak English. She ran a successful seamstress business out of her basement for 50 years. My Nonna designed beautiful dresses and suits, including my mom’s bridesmaid and bridal gown. She passed last summer, but I swear I can hear her voice when I’m sewing.
