While you can be trans and intersex, they are not the same thing. The purpose of this post is not to conflate these experiences, but to remind folks that biological sex is complex. Weaponizing the concept of "basic biology" against trans folks is misguided and harmful. Beyond awareness, intersex folks deserve access to care that validates their experiences and gives them autonomy over their bodies. 54% of intersex people experience anxiety and depression. 62% were operated on before they or their parents could give informed consent. 49% were given hormones before they or their parents could give informed consent. Why are transphobes pushing to limit access to surgery and hormones for trans folks (who have given their informed consent) while ignoring the issues facing intersex folks? End intersex surgery.
