A serious moment in the last few weeks. I went to the memorial service for my agent of 40 years, Mort Janklow. It was a major production and beautifully done, with many, many important people in publishing, and 19 important speakers, paying tribute to him. He was a remarkable man, a giant and a genius and a wonderful person. His wife had an amazing 'decor' made, huge 15 foot high trompe l'oeil panels like theatrical sets, made to look like his library, with all the books he has represented on the shelves, and copies of his favorite Dubuffet paintings. It was a very impressive turnout for a giant of a man, larger than life, and seeing him in the photos made me miss him all the more. He led a very, very full enormously productive life, and worked until the day he died at 92. I flew in from Paris to be there, and was so glad I did. I wrote a tribute to him, which one of his colleagues read, because I knew it would be too hard for me to read it. #daniellesteel
