There is a small village south of Vienne called Ampuis, on the west side of the Rhône river, that is home to some of the biggest names in Côte Rôtie-AOC wines. One of them is Rostaing-Pierre. The wine is as delicious as you might imagine. While I do love discussing the finer points of flavor profiles of all kinds of beverages (wine, coffee, tea...) I am a conosuier of buildings and building details. The doors of this building at Rostaing are made from retired wine barrels that have been re-soaked, flattened, and assembled into the door you see here. Details. It’s always the details.
