Elsa. Named after a lion, but shy as a rabbit. This photo was taken in 2014, at our house in San Diego. We still have that purple collar — tucked away in a chest for safekeeping — and she still has that slight smile and those white spots on her front paws. I wish I could find a way to recreate the way her fur smelled when she’d nap in my arms after tiring herself out in the freedom of her puppyhood. I don’t think I could ever love anything the same way as I have loved her.
