Designer Manish Malhotra's (@manishmalhotra05) townhouse has an instant impression of a generous, wholesome family home strewn with flowers and a table spread full of food. He moved into this townhouse, an anomaly in a city known for its towering skyscrapers, seven years ago, and along with designer Kunal Shah (@kunalshahdesigns), set out to remodel the space to create a haven for him and his parents with their own personal floors, a lounge and dining area, and the terrace, all in line with vastu and feng shui principles. Malhotra’s home is classic, comfortable, functional, tinged with nostalgia, flushed in natural light, surrounded by trees, and built around an open-to-sky courtyard. "I spend the whole day with bling and shine and embroideries and colour...so when I come home, it’s not what I want at all. I kind of like a lot more quietness, I like minimalism. I love whites and off-whites, a lot of greenery, filled with fresh flowers, a lovely fragrance and for the home to be welcoming, says Malhotra. “I have a great sync with Gauri Khan (@gaurikhan). She understands space,” Malhotra says, about the additional 5,000 square feet that he is adding to the existing 11,000-square-foot home, designed in collaboration with the interior designer. “It’s an extension, and in a way a new look. I want it more modern, more minimal, but still a home; it has to have my art, my personality. I also want a strong ‘Made in India’ focus, spotlighting young talent.” Directed and Edited by: Piya Pahwa (@piya_pahwa) Video by: Rohit M (@thematterstudio_) Cover photography: Ashish Sahi (@ashishsahi) Stylist: Samir Wadekar (@sam_wade11) Visuals Editor: Harshita Nayyar (@harshitanayyar_) Production: Shalini Kanojia (@shalinikanojia) Words: Priyanka Khanna (@priyankaskhanna) Head of Editorial Content: Komal Sharma (@komalinga)
