Through the usage of bright colors, organic shapes, and meandering quilting patterns, Michael C. Thorpe (@iversonsdurag) explores the limitations of both social constructs and textiles. He combines fabrics, imagery and language to evoke alternative perspectives on the human experience. ⠀
⠀
Furthering his exploration in textiles, Thorpe has recently begun incorporating sculptures into his practice, demonstrating the material’s versatility through its 3D capabilities. One example of this method is "Big Ass Tech Deck," a new sculpture that was on display in our recent fundraiser exhibition It Takes a Village, hosted alongside @LibraryStreetCollective in support of the development of a pubic skatepark on the grounds of @theShepherdDetroit in Detroit’s East Village, designed by @TonyHawk and artist @McArthurBinion.⠀
