Born #onthisday in 1950, Jenny Holzer emerged in the late 1970s and early 80s with the intention of taking art out of the museum and gallery context and making it more accessible to the general public. Her strategy was to use text printed on billboards, park benches, and commercially printed items like T-shirts and posters to disseminate her work throughout New York City. With a general or special exhibitions ticket, you can now view Holzer's Thorax, which was recently re-installed in the third floor galleries at The Broad! ____ Jenny Holzer, Thorax, 2008. 12 double-sided, curved LED signs (lower two signs with two elements each): white diodes on front; red & blue diodes.
