The band provides a resistance through the joint into the direction of the stretch to both increase the depth of the stretch and mobilize the joint itself. Adding oscillatory movements with the combined assistance of the band will eventually help improve the flexibility and mobility of the hip. Don’t forget to follow these up with active movements and strengthening to ensure you have control of the joint through the newly acquired ranges.
