Yosemite Day 1 recap: Hiking Sentinel Dome and Taft Point! (Shout out to reader Jill for her amazing reccos that we followed our whole trip ♥️) Both hikes fairly short, moderate and doable with a toddler on your back! (Sentinel Dome isn’t as steep as a drop off as it looks, but maybe skip Taft point if you have a wild runner, or just don’t let them down near the edge!🤣) Sentinel Dome was definitely our favorite. These views don’t even look real!! June loved taking off her shoes and splashing in the icy puddles left from the rain the night before! We were pleasantly surprised at how few people were there (we were told that because kids are back to school it was significantly less crowded!) If I had one piece of advice for someone wanting to plan a trip during the warmer months, it would be to wait until the end of August! 🤯 Based on everything we read, we were pretty stressed to get out the door each morning in order to avoid crowds but it wasn’t nearly as big of an issue as anticipated! (This doesn’t mean the Valley didn’t still feel like Disney World, but everywhere else was pretty quiet until the afternoon!) We hit the lookouts at Washburn Point and Glacier Point on the way back, but I’d actually recommend doing the reverse if you pass the trailheads at Taft/Sentinel point and they aren’t crowded, keep going to Glacier point and hit the trails on the way back. Glacier Point was a zoo by the time we got there so we didn’t wait for a parking spot, but Washburn point is super close, way less crowded and also a beautiful view! Also, it’s hard to beat the view from Sentinel Dome anyway IMO!) At the end of the day we drove back to our cabin at the Redwoods in Wawona and had a little happy hour picnic with chips and guac near Wawona’s Swinging Bridge which is a short trail that had several nice calm areas to dip your our toes in the icy river! Also, our toddler pack is @deuter_usa Kid Comfort Pro and we can’t recommend it enough. It was a gift from our wonderful friends when June was born and we LOVE it. (And so does June!)
