At KARANA, we’re thankful for dirt and the custodians who take care of it.⁠ Soil nourishes us, stores carbon, and gives us nutritious food, but only if its cared for.⁠ We’re thankful for our partners in Sri Lanka, who have allowed jackfruit trees to grow for hundreds of years, leaving the rich soil undisturbed and planting turmeric, vanilla, pepper, and other crops naturally in the forest, attracting pollinators and boosting biodiversity.⁠ We’re thankful for how they have preserved a system that naturally regenerates the ecosystem and community it supports, and that we can learn from it and be a part of it.⁠ We’re also thankful that this system provides so much abundance of jackfruit, that we can use it to bring delicious dishes across the world while tapping into a resource that would otherwise go to waste.⁠ Finally we’re thankful to all our chefs, partners, and friends around the world who are thinking a step deeper about where their food comes from and what kind of community and farming system it supports.⁠ ⁠ Happy Thanksgiving!
