So got some news! My seven year old baby, no longer, has been acquired!! I couldn’t be happier because @happynotperfect will grow to a further 69 million accounts and support the mental health of so many more minds across the world!!! It’s been a real journey of ups and hellish lows. But what makes everything worth it, is the fact we’ve supported the evolution of mental health care globally and helped a huge amount of people. In 2015, I could barely utter the words “mental health” in an investor meeting for it was seen to be a too “scary” topic for them to consider a commercial app to be built around. How things have brilliantly changed since then! The mission to bring more tools, more awareness and more education in an accessible format was what got me up in the morning. Being a female founder in 2015-2018 was very challenging and things have changed luckily. I was undermined, ignored, not taken seriously, pushed down, quite frankly bullied and without the tools that Happy Not Perfect was building, I would have bowed out a very long time ago. Mental health care doesn’t often make your problems go away nor does it dissolve stress, but it helps you cope better with the twists and turns life throws at you. Even writing this is bringing a tear to my eye. I often talk about the dangers of identifying your personality and self too closely with your work but I am sure many entrepreneurs will understand, sometimes its a bit impossible to extract yourself from your company. Every pain the company went through, I felt it too. But equally, every win we had, I also felt those too. I have had the most incredible 7 years. Ive travelled the world, met some incredible people, worked alongside some of the most talented individuals and now I know, my little baby is about to make so so so many more people a bit happier, a bit more supported and a bit less stressed. Happy Not Perfect taught me the greatest lesson, that things don’t need to be perfect, to be happy and the greatest happiness is found within the imperfection!!
