At the start of my BA at csm back in 2015, as someone who had decided very late that they wanted to study the design of clothes, I was bewildered at the brief of inventing designs from nothing; at the time I didn’t have any favourite designers or cult books to rip off as a way in, all I had to rely on as a starting point was what hanging on rails at home. Clothes for clothes sake isn’t justifiable anymore, but by working “from myself” I’m able to reassure myself of the sincerity of the starting point.
