Alarmingly, over 90% of Afghanistan’s health clinics have been shut down since the fall of Kabul one year ago. Other essential basic services have also collapsed, including domestic violence shelters and women’s assistance programs– leaving thousands of women and girls even more vulnerable to child, early and forced marriage, domestic abuse, and other forms of gender-based violence that leave permanent physical and psychological scars. ⁠ ⁠ Today is #WorldHumanitarianDay, during which we honor the selfless resolve of countless crisis-affected people reclaiming hope and resilience, survivor leaders, supporters, advocates, and volunteers working hard to deliver urgent health care, shelter, food, protection, water and much more to those affected by humanitarian disasters. The dedication of humanitarian workers across the globe is especially mission-critical to TYTW, as these crises take a disproportionate toll on girls and women and often cause rates of child marriage to increase.
