Repost from @azitagram 👋🏽 friends, in recent days there’s been a growing anti-refugee movement happening. Criminalizing them, humiliating them & far-right groups creating hunting permits for them. This, after the world witnessed the collapse of #Afghanistan and the chaos that ensued. Now 100s of thousands have been displaced in despair & desperately need our support. Our voices to demand an end to this dehumanization. To push to help those living in tents begging to cross to safe border, or arriving to new lands with nothing but the clothes on their back and a plastic bag of belongings. I’m political asylum seeker from Afghanistan whose family came out of refugee camps through the 80s. I know what it means to rebuild your life with just that plastic bag. Some took their plastic bags and are proudly working class, and some have catapulted into incredibly successful business persons. None of them are a violent threat to society as is often painted. In fact, through my work @menaadvocacy we educate on who #MENA immigrants really are & the facts are, 1 in 5 MENA immigrants, which includes Afghans, is an entrepreneur. With high median incomes and educational attainment Not violent criminals. This demonization of Refugees after the trauma they’ve already endured creates hysteria, separation and more pain.
