Day 4/365: Big school.
Parents: Arghhhh I can't wait till you guys grow up.
Also parents: My babiesss, please don't grow up so fast.
As I look at Sarah now, her baby-ish features are disappearing and she's looking more and more like a little lady. PLEASE SOMEBODY PASS ME TISSUE AND A TUB OF ICE CREAM.
Today Sarah started her first day at big school.
Parents weren't allowed in so we watched her walk away from the car. Unlike my first two kids, Sarah stopped at the school entrance, turned around and waved at us goodbye for a good three seconds. She had a big smile. My heart melted to the ground. Daniel and Mariam had zoomed off, embarrassed to be associated with this scene.
Then Sarah turned around and walked to her classroom with a little skip in her step. She was excited. It was so nice to see her that way. The excitement of independence, the excitement of being part of the big kids club, oh the exciting world ahead. She probably doesn't know she has to do this everyday for the next 16 years, but let's not tell her yet. Save that bullet for when she throws a tantrum.
The feeling wasn't mutual in the car. I felt like a piece of me was just taken away and I actually... missed her. Gonna see her in a few hours, but still. She's changing so fast - what if she changes and I lose this joy of mine completely?
Afterwards, I was so excited to hug her and ask her all about her day.
"It was great, Mommy! I painted a rainbow."
Private school fees well paid...
Then she frowned.
"But Mommy, Daniel and Mariam didn't take care of me," she complained. "You tell them, next time must send Sarah to the classroom first and hug me. Then pick me up. You tell them, ok."
Yes, Your Majesty.
Ok she hasn't changed.
