🛖Home sweet home🛖 The builders of Stonehenge would have lived in houses just like this. They lived at Durrington Walls, just a couple of miles north east of Stonehenge and life there 5,000 years ago would have been sociable and busy. We have five of these reconstructed houses at Stonehenge for you to explore. Step inside and you'll get a sense of what everyday life was like in the Neolithic. A daily task may well have been to walk across the low hills to Stonehenge to shape and raise the great stones, but other people may have been required to make tools, prepare materials and cook food. Food was prepared around the central hearth, and the evidence of animal remains left behind at Durrington Walls gives us some indication of what they were eating. Of the bones and teeth excavated at the site, 90% were from pigs, and the rest were mostly from cattle. People travelled from far away to get here and we believe that many gathered for huge feasts around the winter solstice. Step inside the reconstructed houses at Stonehenge, chat to our volunteers and imagine the busy lives of those people who once lived in houses just like these. . . . . #house #home #neolithic #durringtonwalls #stonehenge #salisbury #wiltshire #visitsalisbury #visitwiltshire #visitbritain #lovebritain #lovegreatbritain #uk #england #englishheritage #travelphotography #visitengland #history #heritage #stone #archaeology #charity #prehistory
