Peach tree appreciation post! I never knew how much joy a fruit tree could bring. The abundance! The generosity! It’s been a great reminder of how magical nature is. In anticipation of a summer harvest, we carefully trimmed the tree back last winter and when our girls picked the first ripe peach in early July, you could see the amazement in their eyes. As they bit into the flesh, they discovered an iconic taste of summer: juicy, fragrant, sweet and wildly fresh. Visiting the tree for a snack became part of our daily routine. We made pies, crumbles and salads. We grilled them, baked them and poached them. We bought a special ladder to live underneath it so anyone who came to visit could climb up and reach the pretty pinky-orange ones up top. We ate a lot of peaches! And gave away even more. Today, we picked the last remaining peaches off the tree and it could only be summed up as bittersweet. I have loved the simple joy of this giving tree more than I knew was possible and can’t wait for its return next year. 🍑
