On our last evening we got to swim for more than an hour with this super calm mom and baby humpback just before sunset. The visibility wasn’t super good because it was getting dark and there were a ton of jellyfish things in the water zapping all of us...but when you’re in it and watching them.. wow. I’ve come every year to swim with the whales and it’s still hard to leave in moments like this :) To give a little context on what it’s like to swim with whales in FP: 1. it’s a lot of hours on a boat (5 - 8 hours a day) 2. lots of swimming at the surface. 3. lots of just waiting and observing their behavior both in and out of the water to see if it’s appropriate to try to swim. I recommend going with someone like @dr.michael.poole who, as a scientist, can tell you a lot about whale behavior and history while you wait :) 4. The whales dictate the interaction - as in never charging in towards them directly. I know it’s sort of hard because in photos it’s so hard to tell just how far away we are. But anyway if you have any questions feel free to ask! —- Amazing water woman @moore_rachel took these and I’m so grateful!!
