Do you know the history of the sticker you have on a handful of your vintage cameras? Post World War II, there was a perception that Japanese cameras were cheaply made and of low quality. As the industry learned quality control practices, shaking that perception was difficult--enter the "Japan Camera Inspection Intitute": a collaboration between the Japanese government and the camera industry to ensure the quality of cameras being exported from Japan. Today, "Made in Japan" carries with it a perception of a high quality product.
