Thank you @bruce_weber for capturing the essence of my love, @talisasotobratt in this beautiful story. What a profound history you share together! Fantastic!❤️ Posted @withregram • @bruce_weber I first went to Paris for work in 1982 when I photographed the couture with Grace Coddington. I was so wide-eyed at everything in the City of Light: the easy elegance of the Hôtel de Crillon on Place de la Concorde, models who still carried numbered cards at the Chanel show, Pierre Bergé shouting “Silence, s’il vous plaît!” as the white cloth was pulled back from the runway and the Saint Laurent show began, and the crush of the photographers all jammed in together in the press pit. But the memory that stands out most was the fashion world’s immediate and complete fascination with the young Puerto Rican model Grace and I had brought over to work with us. Her name was to be known as @talisasotobratt—she didn’t speak English with such fluency, but by her second day there she had all of Paris “bewitched, bothered and bewildered.” Was it the Clara Bow-inspired haircut Didier Malige had given her? I couldn’t quite figure out why Paris was all abuzz about her—it wasn’t as if Talisa was going out on the town until all hours. She was 15 at the time, happy being whisked back and forth in a black vintage Citroën from her hotel to our studio each night to take photographs as the clothes came off the runways. She wasn’t about to sneak out to order soupe à l’oignon or sole meunière at Le Voltaire, preferring to take her chances with room service pizza. Now 40 years later—which I find hard to believe—she is still one of my all-time favorite women to photograph. I was honored to be able to spend time with her son Mateo as well, a young athlete who lives for basketball and possesses that unique Latin pride and love for his family that includes his father, the talented actor @benjaminbratt, and his beloved sister Sophia. It was wonderful to welcome Talisa again after so long—as I hugged her the years fell away with lots of laughter, happiness, and respect for our long friendship. From my story with Talisa in @amazingmagazine, out now. Thanks always to @huwgwyther
