We didn’t know them and they didn’t know us. It didn’t matter. They saw us, and welcomed us anyway :) We were walking through the smaller streets in Amsterdam, getting lost, no agenda, letting the kids choose- should we go left? Should we go right? We followed all their commands, getting lost in a beautiful city and not a care in the world. We soon heard music in the distance. It sounded fun, almost circus-like. We asked the kids, should we follow it? See where it’s coming from? Yes they yelled excitedly, and off we went. It wasn’t a circus, it wasn’t an event, just a local bbq and an incredible mobile music fest passing by. Friends gathered together, grilling, drinking, socializing. Before we knew it, we were part of their gathering. Imagine hanging out with friends, seeing passerbys and telling them to join. Would you do that? Or if you were us, would you have joined? It wasn’t a question in our mind. We have made friends in questionable ways over the years (like that time we met a family while in Italy and agreed to visit them in their home in South Africa. We did it 🫣) but it’s always left a very warming feeling in our hearts. Life is curious, and moments like these make us feel connected deeply.
