Venom is one of the most epic but also most collaborative movies I’ve worked on. Often times, the more renowned and decorated people are in this industry... the more inviting, giving, creatively collaborative and accepting of ideas and improv they are... whether it’s in front of the lens or behind it. Back in the day I never would’ve guessed that, but now I realize that’s part of what makes them so good and so desirable to work with. That knowledge, along with many valuable experiences, has allowed me to free up on set and not be afraid to bring my own flare, so to speak, while of course respecting the writers, the production and time. On Venom, director Ruben Fleischer, who I’d worked with before (if anybody can guess what we worked on I’ll hug you tight if I ever meet you in person), scheduled the shoot for me to start on day one of principal photography so that he’d “know somebody” while kicking things off. What a mind-bending gift that is... a bit of a how-did-I-get-here moment. That was a cool comfort for both of us. And then I met Tom, who was in his process of “creating/finding” Venom. Day 1, I remind myself. Who was genuinely taking my opinions... my creative thoughts and insight into consideration after every take, for several days. Playing and tossing ideas around as if we’d both been nominated for an Oscar 🫠 What a f***ing ride. The feels that stories like this bring me are so much of why I love what I do. Stick around for the epic bonus features at the end with Ruben Fleischer givin’ me some mad street cred. Myyyy dude 🙌🏼🔥 @marvel @venommovie #Venom #tomhardy #rubenfleischer #matttolmach #Marvel
