Borderlands is a film that is based on the true stories of a North Korean defector. Ha Eun, who is a millennial of North Korea grew up under capitalist influences due to the South Korean dramas that she watched in secrecy. Being a fashion lover, and currently a fashion practitioner in Seoul, it is paramount that this film takes on a fashion visual spin, to pay tribute to the defector. • This short film highlights her experiences, musings and explorations with Fashion back in North Korea and it sheds light on the impact that foreign media has on the Jangmadang Generation. • Through a nostalgic eye, we follow her journey to liberty and difficulties that follow her in order to embrace her new earned freedom. • This film seeks to highlight the separation from family and friends following her decision to defect, and hopes to offer a new perspective into the lives of North Koreans and their deep human experiences. • (Her name has been changed in order to protect her identity.) • Creative directed by: Cheryl Faith DOP: @mridwandop Gaffer: @reuelyeo Music production: @zendyllrecords Grips: @ojyglenn, @limyuequn Camera assistant: @haqsmash Photography assistant: @jun.im98 Make up artist: @caramelprata Special thanks to Liberty in North Korea & Ha Eun.
