London Trans+ Pride is happening this Saturday! I’ve been thinking about why trans pride is important? I’m hearing of the passing of a trans sibling almost on a monthly basis, a friend of a friend, a member of our community, someone I’ve met. A friend, someone I know, love and care about is passing every six months due to the inhumane access to health care that’s mainly the catalyst for members of community, friends no longer being here with us. This shouldn’t be happening. I go home to Newcastle and see everyone alive, well and thriving and it makes me so happy but I don’t know why this same luxury of existing in this world can’t be afforded for my trans siblings. We are not asking for much just safety, compassion and access to life affirming which is usually life saving health care - the same health care offered to every cisgender person. These failings are literally costing us our lives, my friends lives, my chosen families lives. We need EVERYONE to come down and show solidarity with us this Saturday. It is because of trans folk we have pride in the first place. We deserve better! We demand better! Artwork by @studiomoross
