Rest In Peace sweet Millie. Millie was the best dog. I know a lot of people say that - but for Brian and I, she truly was a match made in heaven. She was my shadow and my soul mate, the E.T. (wrinkly legs and all) to my Elliott. When you adopt a senior dog you know your time will be brief - yet it feels like even a decade longer wouldn’t have been long enough. Millie saved me. She opened up my heart in a way I didn’t know was possible. She brought so much joy to Brian and me, to Kate, Berlyn, and Robynne, to everyone she met as she’d stand in their way with no spatial awareness or concern beyond her own desire to be close to someone. I am utterly heartbroken, but what’s giving me comfort is knowing we did exactly what we set out to do - we gave a senior dog a great few last years. Letting her go when her body was failing and releasing her from the pain and confusion was the final act of love we could perform. It was gut wrenching and yet peaceful knowing we had no other choice. It’s a beautiful and tragic completion of the cycle. She will be so missed.
