This is the second of the three sets we built for the “Jurassic World: Dominion” global publicity shoot...the hot white set on which we also shot a grey seamless, a pongee seamless and a gold Schmidli backdrop. The white seamless look was the biggest we’ve ever built. The backdrop was a 20x30 silk with six umbrellas (each on its own pack) pumping all kinds of light through it. The stage was 16x24 with a another 8x16 “holding area” on which we kept the grey, pongee and gold, to be wheeled in and wheeled out as needed and lightning quick! And if you’ve ever peeled the adhesive covering off of one piece of 4x8 plexiglass, you can probably imagine how much fun it is to peel the adhesive covering off of TWELVE pieces of plexi. FUN! Why so big? Seven cast walking upstage, that’s why! A stage that big gave me the opportunity to work around the talent, covering them from a variety of angles. The light on the white and the pongee was two unbaffled octobanks thru a 12x silk with a gridded beauty dish out front to push the light across the scene when the actors were all lined up shoulder to shoulder. When we switched over to the grey and / or the gold, we changed up the light with a medium, gridded strip right over the camera and an unbaffled 7’ umbrella behind me. And when we pre-light and blockfor all of the different singles, doubles, triples, four-shots, five shots and groups, we mark the stage with all kinds of differently colored gaff and paper tape.
