Sumeena, who was married at 14, works to support her children by transporting rocks upon her back. TYTW founder @stephsinclairpix photographed Sumeena on her wedding day and TYTW continues to support her two children through leadership scholarships – addressing the cyclical poverty that leads to child marriage. According to UNESCO, an estimated 171 million people could escape extreme poverty if equipped with basic reading and writing skills. If all adults had access to secondary education, the global poverty rate would be cut in half. Just under half the population is not able to read or write in Nepal and more than 38% of girls are forced into child marriage. Providing girls with access to education creates a new generation of young women leaders, who will positively transform their local communities, ultimately helping to lift them out of poverty. Please join us in this fight to end poverty by sharing our work and donating through the link in our bio.
