Been on the low for a minute & avoiding crowds 😷. But not for long! We are excited to be expecting a babe in December! Women are often taught to hide their pregnancies and the process of choosing to bear a child, and loss. The birthing process is hard, and should never be forced upon anyone! Black Birthing complications/maternal mortality in America is an epidemic. One I almost lost my own life to in 2020, despite being a nurse. I shouldn’t have to be a Nurse and a patient, yet when I step into a hospital I can’t turn it off, especially with the state of healthcare these days. Especially being acutely aware of and experiencing bias. But being a nurse saved my life and continues to inform my walk through healthcare’s complicated systems and this world. I feel fortunate that I had the education, familiarity and was physically conscious to self advocate, a right that is not afforded to every birthing mother. Women’s health, women’s rights and access to information and quality care should be number one in this country, right now it feels as if it is slipping through our fingers rather than advancing. This photo was taken several weeks ago by my friend @edinm @ 14 weeks 🤰🏽It’s ok to be excited and informed! I hope by sharing my experience I can help other women as well. 😊 #shareblackwomenstories #blackwomensurf #blackwomensurfpregnant
