My father's birthday rolls around father's day so we usually celebrate both on the same day. This year I gifted him @diorbeauty and set up a father/son photo shoot because we’ve never had one. Like a lot of other Afro-Latino raised kids our relationship was a bit different. He didn’t get the communal support we have now or the mental awareness encouragement and he didn’t live in any degree of a “woke” society. He experienced struggles of his own, but the thing about my father is despite the distance and whatever’s going on. he always checks in; he always shows up. he’s always there.
