@acoldwall Building on a dialogue sparked in 2020 with the release of the Chuck Taylor All Star Lugged, A-COLD-WALL* and @converse unveil the ACW_CNVS Chuck Taylor 70. As the genesis for this collaboration, Founder and Artistic Director Samuel Ross looks to his peers, exemplary artists and thought- leaders in the global community. What followed is an ode to the pursuit of creative expression, a shoe positioned as an integral component within the artist’s uniform. A diptych of portraits across still and moving images reveals the stories and practices of such artisans, Founding Director of design firm Food New York, architect Dong-Ping Wong, and award- winning industrial designer Nifemi Marcus-Bello. Both artists, masters in their chosen fields, introspectively examine what an icon means to them. Captured in their studio environments, New York and Lagos, respectively, a mutual school of thought emerges - creative output needs to impact; it is required to guide, inspire and evolve. Harnessing community through artistic expression is a shared principle of A-COLD-WALL*’s longstanding philosophy, wherein connectivity lies central to its design ethos. The language of A- COLD-WALL*’s Chuck Taylor is metaphorical and physical, literal and symbolic, yet it finds virtue in refined simplicity, celebrating the universal truth of functional design.
